Stirling Candidate Profiles


Anne McGuire

Anne was elected to the House of Commons in May 1997. She was the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Scotland from November '97 to July '98. In July '98, Anne became an Assistant Government Whip and was appointed a Lord Commisioner to the Treasury in June 2001. In June 2002 Anne became Parliamentary Under Secretary at The Scotland Office. Following the Scotland Office's incorporation in the new Department of Constitutional Affairs, Anne was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in that department with responsibility for Scotland.

From 2005 General Election till Oct 2008 Anne was Minister for Disabled People at the Department for Work and Pensions. In the last reshuffle the Prime Minister asked Anne to undertake a non-ministerial special project supported from within the Cabinet Office.

Anne is a trained teacher but has gained most of her work experience in management in the voluntary sector. She has also worked with multi-disadvantaged young people and adults with learning difficulties.



Bob Dalrymple

Bob Dalrymple is based within the Stirling constituency as a marketing executive in the whisky industry. 

Bob was born and brought up in Dumfries and studied Law at the University of Edinburgh, from where he graduated in 1997.  While at university, he was elected president of the students' association.  He also won The John Smith Memorial Mace and the British and Irish universities debating competition.
Bob contested the Stirling seat for the Scottish Parliament in 2007, increasing the Conservative's vote.  



Graham Reed

Graham Reed has a degree in Politics and spent 30 years working as a scientific glassblower, during which time he managed the workshop at the University of Strathclyde.  In 1988 he set up his own business Scotia Glass Technology, which he sold in 2002 in order to invest in and help develop micro-scale windmills to fit onto homes and business properties.  He is the current director of Windsave Ltd.

In 2007 he became a Stirling Council member, where he is particularly active in environmental issues. He is the Lib Dem leader on the council and is active in a number of local enterprise and business groups, including the Stirling Business Centre and the Stirling Enterprise and Economic Development (SEEDCO).



Alison Lindsay

Alison has worked in the front line of National Health and Education services, as nurse, midwife and teacher all her working life.

As an elected Councillor in Clackmannanshire from 1999-2003, she served as Education Convener. In post revolution Romania, Alison worked voluntarily to develop their maternity services.

A hill walker, cyclist and supporter of our environment and heritage, Alison is a member of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

Alison lived in Buchlyvie before moving to Argyll as a child. She was educated at Oban High School and brought up her own family in Dollar.

Alison trained as nurse and midwife at in Edinburgh and Stirling. As a mature student Alison gained a BA (Hons) and Dip. Ed at the University of Stirling.
