Moray Candidate Profiles


Angus Robertson

Angus Robertson MP is the SNP Leader in Westminster and the Scottish Shadow Minister for Defence and Foreign Affairs.

Before his election in June 2001 he was the European and International Affairs Adviser to the SNP group in the Scottish Parliament.

Prior to that, he worked as a foreign and diplomatic correspondent in central Europe for the BBC, Austrian Radio and other leading broadcasters.

Angus was born in London and brought up in Edinburgh where he received both his Primary and High School education. Angus completed a MA Honours in Politics and International Relations at Aberdeen University before embarking on his journalistic career.

He is a member of the European Scrutiny Committee, Vice-Chairman of the All Party Whisky Group, Vice-Chairman of the All Party Offshore Oil and Gas Group, member of the All Party Fisheries Group and participant in the Parliamentary Armed Forces Scheme.



Douglas Ross

Douglas is 25 and has lived in Moray all his life.  Douglas lived at Burgie Lodge farm until he was 15 when his family moved to Forres.  Douglas was a pupil of Alves Primary and Forres Academy.

On leaving secondary school, Douglas studied agriculture with the Scottish Agricultural College at their Auchincruive site in Ayr and graduated with a Bachelor of Technology Honours degree in Agriculture.

After graduation Douglas took up work at a local dairy farm outside Brodie in the west of Moray, working with Pedigree Holstein cattle.  When the herd was sold in 2006 Douglas headed east and took up a post of dairyman at a commercial dairy farm between Elgin and Lhanbryde, where he stayed until his election to the Moray Council on the 3rd of May 2007.

Douglas sits on the Education, Audit and Performance, Appeals and both the Licensing committee and board as well as a being chairman of a sub-committee on the CCTV network in Moray.

Beyond the Council, Douglas is a member of the Grampian Joint Police Board and Moray Drug and Alcohol Action Team (MDAAT).  Douglas also works as a parliamentary assistant to Mary Scanlon MSP in her role as a member for the Highlands and Islands and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing.

Away from politics Douglas is the Chairman of his local young farmers club in which he has won awards including national titles for speechmaking.  He is also a qualified SFA referee officiating at local junior games.



Jamie Paterson

Jamie was born and brought up in the Highlands. He is the son of an Easter Ross farmer and former Highland Councillor. He attended Hilton and Nigg Primary Schools before moving to a preparatory school and then Gordonstoun. Although rooted in Scotland, his experience of working in London, Australia and the US has given him an international outlook. His more recent experience of working for two Highland MSPs has increased his understanding of the issues that affect the Highlands.

Jamie now lives in Edinburgh with his wife Flavia. They are expecting their first child in August. Jamie enjoys walking with their cocker spaniel, Bracken and tries to get out of Edinburgh when he can. He is a keen amateur aquarist and enjoys diving. He reads widely but has a particular weakness for science fiction.

In 1999 started working as the Parliamentary Assistant to Jamie Stone MSP and John Farquhar Munro MSP where he is currently still employed.



Kieron Green

Kieron lives in Elgin and has worked at Lossiemouth High School for 4 years as a science technician. Prior to this he studied Astrophysics at the University of Edinburgh.

He has been a member of UNISON since he started working, and serves as a Steward and Communications Officer within the local branch. He sits on the STUC Youth Committee.

He is chair of the Elgin North Area Forum, which brings together local residents, community organisations and public bodies together to allow concerns to be tackled and strategic plans for the local area to be formed.
