Linlithgow and East Falkirk Candidate Profiles


Michael Connarty

Michael was first elected to the East Falkirk seat in 1992 and was then elected to the new seat in 2005 which combined Linlithgow and East Falkirk .

Michael, a former teacher, was leader of Stirling Council.  He now chairs the European Scrutiny Committee in the House of Commons.

Michael takes particular interest in the energy, oil and gas sector.

Michael is married with two children and three grand children and lives in the constituency.



Andrea Stephenson

Andrea is 29 and lives and works in the Lothians. Employed as an Operations Co-ordinator in the political field, Andrea is involved in working with elected representatives and the public.

Before working in politics, Andrea trained in stage management at the Guildford School of Acting. She worked freelance in theatre and event management on projects which included tours of schools & young offenders units, as well as diversity work with a black theatre company. She also spent a year as a university lecturer.



Tam Smith

Tam born in Maddiston and educated at the now called Graeme High School in Falkirk. He worked at the Co-op in Whitecross prior to marrying Wilma and moving to Linlithgow.

Tam set up a successful business and joined Linlithgow Business Association. He is also a committee member of The Federation of Small Business in West-Lothian.

Tam was elected to serve as a councillor for the Linlithgow area in 1997 and served till 2007. He is still very a very active member in the community being secretary of Linlithgow Bridge Community Council.

Tam is a member of Scottish C.N.D and was chair of the coalition movement against the war in Iraq.



Stephen Glenn

Stephen has lived in West Lothian since 2001 moving to Bathgate in 2006. He is delighted to have once again been chosen to represent Linlithgow and East Falkirk.

Stephen is a strong local voice and has been standing up for shopkeepers, local transport provision, St. John's Hospital and environmental concerns. He is fully aware of the stresses many local workers are facing with job insecurity or loses and Labour's tax policies leaving them worse off.

Stephen stood in Linlithgow and East Falkirk in 2005 increasing the share of the vote by over 5% and has been holding the MP to account on behalf of those who voted for him then ever since.

Stephen studied Economics at Kingston University, before going on to work in retail, the Northern Irish Civil Service, a children's charity and now in a call centre in Edinburgh where he is a global data analyst for one of the companies key clients.

Stephen is currently single but has recently shared his love of chess with his elder nephew. In his spare time he bowls at a local club, watches Livingston start to climb up the football leagues once again and writes his political blog.
