Dundee East Candidate Profiles

Stewart Hosie

Stewart Hosie was born in Dundee in 1963 and gained an HND in Computer Studies.  He went on to work in IT for 20 years. A highly experienced political campaigner, Stewart was the SNP's first Youth Convener and spent four years as the Party's National Secretary, before being elected Convener in 2003.

Stewart contested the Dundee East Westminster seat in 2001 and again in 2005, when he won the seat. In addition, Stewart is married to Scottish Minister for Public Health, Shona Robison.   Stewart is the Deputy Leader and Chief Whip of the SNP Westminster Group.

Chris Bustin

Chris Bustin has been selected as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Candidate for Dundee East.

Chris moved to Dundee in the 1990's and graduated from Dundee University.  He currently works for the University of Dundee as the International Operations Manager, encouraging students to come and study at the University.  He is engaged to Hazel, and lives in the Blackness Road area of the City.  He was the Candidate for the Westminster Elections for 2005 and for the Holyrood elections in 2007.

Chris has been campaigning for the past ten years for the people of Dundee East and South Angus on a whole range of local and national issues.  Nationally, Chris believes in lower taxes, discipline in our schools, cleaner hospitals, more police on our streets, better and more affordable housing and a cleaner environment.

Katrina Murray

Katrina Murray is Chair of Unison's Women's Committee.  She works in the health sector and is particularly interested in healthcare-related issues.

Clive Sneddon

In politics as in his work as a teacher, Clive Sneddon believes in helping people realise their potential whether by helping them decide what is right for them or by finding practical solutions to their problems. As a councillor on North East Fife District Council (1980-96), Clive was able to help individuals and communities, and was particularly supportive of using council funds to support community groups through matching funding. Clive also used European initiative funding to promote tourism by working with other European local authorities in France, Spain and Greece. In housing, a heat-efficient dwelling scheme secured reduction in energy needs and costs for tenants. In recycling, substantial progress was made for paper and glass, but a successful pilot scheme to show commercial possibilities for local business was taken no further by the Labour-controlled Fife Council in 1996.

As a parliamentary candidate in Dundee, Clive has been particularly interested in what can be done to help people with finding and creating work and resolving problems of health, education and addiction.
